I like girls. Heck, I married one. But, my attraction doesn’t stop there. I openly admit that I have a propensity to play them in video games too. If a game has a character creation menu, the odds are I will be experimenting with the fairer gender.

I have an odd relationship with Gamestop. I really despise large companies that hurt small businesses. They get exclusive deals that other retailers don't for preorders and currently enjoy a 22% market share on the entire video game market, according to gamasutra.com. It would seem like a slam dunk that I would avoid the place like the plague, but I actually believe they are a positive force.

Brains! Braaaaains! Braaaaaaaaains! The studio behind great hits such as Counterstrike, numerous Half-Life mods and expansions, Brothers in Arms, and Borderlands is in the news again. Though the water is being stirred a bit soon, I thought I would give my take on the event. In late May, Gearbox applied for a trademark on the title "Z-Day.” While all it is only a simple trademark application, it has been speculated by many that this will be one of the four listed "secret in-development" games Gearbox mentions on their website. It may also be DLC to an existing game.

"Same," "similar," "cookie cutter," "by the numbers," "remake," "expansion." These are all descriptions that reviewers have ascribed to the recent release of Crackdown 2. You can find similar descriptors in reviews of most sequels. After reading a number of reviews of sequels that used these same sort of descriptions and then playing the games for myself, I was struck by a seeming disconnect between what video game reviewers want from a sequel and what I, as a gamer, want.

Previously on RGV Double-Tap: I lost it on the computer taking over at the end of a video game and finishing off the big bad guy for you.

This week, I’m actually going to talk about a couple of games where there wasn’t a final boss battle, and I didn’t miss it, or that I felt tonally, it wasn’t necessary to have a thirty-minute long overture of dodge, dodge, fire at the giant glowing weak spot on the bad guys lower back.

Bright colors and challenging game play are just a small sampling of what my newest favorite Xbox Live Indie game offers. Beat Hazard by Cold Beam Games is produced and created by a company of one. The game is simple yet amazing, and has kept me playing for a few hours so far. We'll get the reason why later on.

Split/Second is an apt title for the new game released by Disney Interactive Studios (developed by Black Rock Studio), because the joy and wonder of this game really lasts for a mere split-second. Terrible pun absolutely intended.
