  • Split/Second

Split/Second is an apt title for the new game released by Disney Interactive Studios (developed by Black Rock Studio), because the joy and wonder of this game really lasts for a mere split-second. Terrible pun absolutely intended.

The racing controls are passable, but unlike most other racers on the market, you don't feel the speed of the car you're driving. The car designs (since the game has no licenses with real auto-manufacturers) are less than stellar, especially considering that Black Rock Studios would only be limited by their imagination when it comes to the cars due to the fact that they have no official licenses from real world auto-manufacturers to worry about.

I realize that I'm being picky here because what everyone who picks up this game cares about are things exploding, and the scenery changing drastically when someone triggers a power play. Well, Black Rock Studios got that aspect right enough for me not to have to recommend that you burn any copies of the game you see on sight. The power plays are wonderful and are just what you're looking for to satiate your appetite for destruction. Unfortunately, that joy you feel when you've changed the face of the track lasts for a mere, say it with me now, Split/Second. Not enough tracks or race variations, passable driving controls and sub-par car creations get this game a: "Rent it for an evening, and then return to Paradise City, or Forza 3, for a truly enjoyable racing experience."
